The Halifax Gibbet is said to have been first used around 1286, and between then and 1650 when it was outlawed by Oliver Cromwell around 100 people are said to have been executed, although their are only records of 52. The current replica Gibbet was erected in 1974 on the original site, the stone platform being rediscovered and preserved in 1840.
