Wyke Viaduct was a 22 arch crossing on the Pickle Bridge Line near Wyke, West Yorkshire. Grade II listed, the viaduct suffered form subsidence throughout it's short working history, the northern end finally being partially demolished in 1987. The picture shows one of the remaining arches crossing over a rural track near Bradford Road.
The Pickle Bridge Line is a former railway that connecting Bradford with Huddersfield and beyond. Running from Pickle Bridge junction at Wyke the line skirted the eastern side of Bailiff Bridge and Brighouse before reaching Anchor Pit Junction near to the point where the modern day M62 Motorway crosses the line. The line was opened in 1881 and crossed 3 viaducts and passed through 2 stations, by the 1940's the Grade II listed Wyke Viaduct was suffering major subsidence and the speed limit along the line was greatly reduced. It was completely closed in 1952 with the viaducts at Clifton Road and Wyke both partially demolished. I have replaced the sky, the original was completely washed out.
