De Havilland Heron at the Entrance to Croydon Airport Industrial Estate

29th October 2024
Croydon Airport was for a time Britain's biggest airport and was given over to the RAF during World War 2. After the war it was returned to public use but closed in 1959 after being overtaken by Heathrow as London's main airport and Gatwick opening the year before. The de Havilland Heron is found at the entrance mounted on struts, it is painted in the colours of Morton Air Services, the last passenger service provided to depart the airport on the 30th September 1959. I took this in June 2015 with a Polaroid is2132. www.colingreenphotography.co.uk
