29th October 2024
William Deighton was a tax collector for the Halifax area in the era of the infamous Cragg Vale Coiners gang. He was murdered by members of the gang on the 9th November 1769. This memorial stone can be found alongside the cycle route between Luddendenfoot and Mytholmroyd at an area known as Brearley. The murder took place near William Deighton's home in Swires Road, Halifax. I took this picture in 2017 with a Nikon d3300 SLR camera. www.colingreenphotography.co.uk
