Smith Art Gallery and Library, Brighouse

Built in 1841 the Smith Art Gallery and Library was originally a private house known as the Rydings. Built by John Brooke the house was bought in 1897 by the local corporation and opened as the Victoria Free Library on the 15th June 1898. The art gallery was opened on 22 May 1907 and the buildings still serve this purpose today. The buildings are surrounded by the Rydings Gardens. www.colingreenphotography.co.uk
