Salterhebble Moorings on the Halifax Branch Canal

29th October 2024
The Halifax Branch Canal is a spur of the Calder & Hebble Navigation that opened along its full length in 1828. The canal originally ran through 14 locks from the junction with the main canal at Salterhebble Locks to Bailey Hall Basin a moorings that sat between the current day Nestle Factory and Halifax Railway Station. The canal closed in 1942 and much of it was infilled and now forms part of the Hebble Trail. The stretch still remaining is approx 1/4 of a mile in length and runs from Salterhbble Locks to Salterhebble Basin. No Locks remain on the route. www.colingreenphotography.co.uk
