Steps to the Abandoned Rishworth Branch Line

Taken in December 2013 with a Samsung Galaxy Tablet on the closed Rishworth Branch Line. The Rishworth Branch line was a railway line that ran along the Ryburn Valley connecting Sowerby Bridge with Rishworth and opened in stages between 1878 and 1881. The line had station's at Sowerby Bridge (mainline junction), Watson's Crossing Halt, Triangle, Ripponden and Rishworth (lines Terminus). The line closed in stages with passenger services withdrawn in July 1929, full closure of the Ripponden to Rishworth part of the line in 1953 and complete closure of the remaining line on the 1st September 1958. Despite 55 years having past when these pictures were taken there are a large number of the bridges still remaining, I am only aware of 3 having been removed. The station platform at Rishworth still remains although it is largely hidden by nature now. www.colingreenphotography.co.uk
