14th November 2023
Historic Toll House on the National Pike outside of Frostburg, MD {11007} The National Road was originally built as a private venture and tolls charged for its use. Such roads were typically in better condition than the plain dirt surfaced. Travelers would have to stop and go pay the toll. This was far easier when the means of movement were horses and hoarse drawn wagons. See additional View of distance marker {11010}
